Community Services
We support our local community through a variety of youth, education and community activities. Our contributors provide:
- Direct financial support for Hillel and Bnai B'rith Youth Organizations
- The Jewish Youth Leadership Fund, which offers scholarships for youth to attend regional, national, and international Jewish events
- Holocaust and tolerance education programs for teachers and classrooms
- Scholarships for youth to attend programs in Israel
- Leadership training for Jewish youth and adults
- Financial and organizational support for a wide variety of local educational and cultural programs
- Advocacy and response for local and national human rights issues

Youth Scholarship Procedures and Application Forms
The Federation offers Jewish Youth Experience Scholarships, which may be used for Jewish Youth conferences and other events as well as travel to Israel. The demonstrated need of applicants is an important consideration in granting such scholarships. Applicants need to print out, complete and submit the first two forms as a part of their application and the third, follow-up form if they receive the scholarship.

The JFLC
Youth Leadership Award
The Education Committee of the Federation selects young adults to receive the JFLC Youth Leadership Award. Teens who are high school juniors or seniors are eligible for this special honor. The award is given out at the Federation's annual kick-off event in late October. The committee reviews each nomination that is submitted and selects between 1 and 3 students who meet the criteria the Federation has established (see nomination form for criteria).
Criteria used by the Education Committee include the
following:
The student nominee
- is a high school junior or senior in Lane County
- shows excellent character (i.e., strong values, integrity, “menschlike”
behavior)
- displays a strong commitment to Judaism
- is a b’nai mitzvah
- participates in Jewish youth/community activities
- participates in social action that helps a Jewish community in
need
- demonstrates leadership skills
- is a role model for peers
The deadline for submitting nominations for the Youth Leadership Award is September 15.
