Job Description: Community Relations Coordinator

Position Type: Part-time, flexible hours
Reports to: JFED Executive Director (Administrative) /JCRC Chair (Program)
Location: Eugene/Springfield, Oregon; some work can be done remotely
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) is a committee of the Jewish Federation of Lane County, whose mission is to support caring, safe, inclusive and enduring Jewish communities.

The purpose of the JCRC is to educate and advocate on issues of vital importance to the organized Jewish community based on consensus, civility and an expanded commitment to living Jewish values of social justice.
​
The Community Relations Coordinator enhances the overall work of the JCRC and helps ensure that it fulfills its mission as the central public affairs coordinating and advisory body for the organized Jewish Community in Lane County.

The Community Relations Coordinator works with the members of the JCRC in three main areas:

to strengthen relationships with civic, interfaith, ethnic, and governmental partners;

represent the Jewish community in the public sphere ;

advance the JCRC and Federation’s priorities in advocacy and education.
This position is ideal for a highly organized, relationship-driven professional committed to Jewish communal life, public affairs, and coalition building.
There will be onboarding, and consistent support provided by the local members of the JCRC.

Policy decisions are made by the members of the JCRC.
​
JOB DUTIES
​
Advocacy & Public Policy (approximately 5 hours a month)

Work with JCRC members including Portland JCRC on public policy agenda and legislative advocacy; facilitate legislative advocacy activities.

Draft advocacy materials, issue briefs, talking points, and policy statements.

Coordinate meetings with policymakers and help mobilize the community for advocacy efforts.

Track legislative developments at the city, state, and, when relevant, federal levels.
Program Coordination (approximately 5 hours a month)

Follow up on the JCRC’s antisemitism outreach program, ensure meetings are held and materials are updated.

Assure that holiday calendar is updated annually and distributed to school districts.

Support special projects such as Israel engagement events, youth initiative, antisemitism response initiatives, or civic engagement campaigns.

Support the Rapid Response Team and other JCRC members in responding to crises.
Communications & Public Affairs (approximately 5 hours a month)

Serve as a point of contact for community inquiries related to public affairs and antisemitism reporting and response.

Work with JCRC members to draft social media content, action alerts, and community updates.

Work with JCRC members to prepare public statements, press releases, and talking points.

Maintain the JCRC website content on JFED website.

Monitor JPROS Listserv for major issues in the field.
Administrative & Federation Integration (approximately 5 hours a month)

Provide staff support to JCRC members, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and coordinating meetings.

Maintain accurate records of partnerships, meetings, and program outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred but not required).
-
2–5 years of experience in community relations, advocacy, nonprofit work, government affairs, or Jewish communal service.

Strong understanding of Jewish communal issues, antisemitism, Israel/Diaspora relations, and intergroup relations.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience working with media (newspapers, TV, radio)

Strong organizational skills; comfortable juggling multiple projects.

Diplomatic, collaborative, and able to work with diverse communities and viewpoints.

Commitment to building and supporting the Jewish community
SALARY INFORMATION
$35 an hour (starting) with expectation of 25-30 hours a month
